2007 Annual Report
We are pleased to share with you our 2007 Annual Report, which describes the success of our grantees and the role that our programs are playing in economically disadvantaged areas across the country.
Thanks to our friends at International Sports Images, the Foundation's Official Supporter for Digital Media & Photography, Matt Lindsay and Soccer America magazine, the importance of our philanthropic investment at every level of the Beautiful Game in this country has been captured in this colorful edition of our Annual Report.
To help you further understand and appreciate the Foundation's accomplishments over the past twelve months, here's a brief snapshot of some key milestones in 2007 achieved with the help of our supporters:
-
$2 million was awarded in grants to 52 groups nationwide as part of the Foundation's 12th Annual Grants Cycle. Included were 16 All Conditions Fields Grants for the construction of 14 full-size soccer fields and two mini-ACF’s that can be used around the clock, in all weather conditions.
-
The Foundation's Passback Program collected and distributed 131,951 pieces of new and gently used soccer equipment and provided it to those in need both here and around the world. This summer the Foundation, along with presenting sponsor Western Union, organized the first ever Passback Tour. The Tour reached approximately 1,000 children in eight cities and featured a series of soccer skills clinics for urban Hispanic youth run by MLS stars and local youth coaches.
-
To honor the life, career and years of distinguished service that coach Glenn “Mooch” Myernick dedicated to the sport of soccer, the Foundation established the Mooch Myernick Fund. Proceeds from the Fund were distributed through Foundation grants to soccer clubs and organizations in urban areas to help increase the number of children playing the sport in communities nationwide.
Much of what we do is made possible through the generous support of our donors. Because our overhead is covered by earnings on our endowment, 100 percent of every dollar contributed to the Foundation goes directly to expanding our programs and helping to meet the needs of our grantees and constituents.
Our goals for 2008 include expanding our grant pool, increasing support for children in urban areas and continuing the expansion of our Passback Program.
We appreciate your interest in the growth of the game, across all levels of the sport, and look forward to an even more successful 2008.
Sincerely,

John A. Koskinen
President
