The United States Soccer Foundation is a nonprofit and nonstock corporation that is exempt from Federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation was formed to encourage broad-bases, grassroots support and contributions for the sport of soccer and to foster interest and enthusiasm in the sport. The Foundation, by agreement with World Cup USA 1994, Inc. was the residual beneficiary of the net proceeds derived from the 1994 World Cup soccer tournament.
