How To Assist In the Long-Term Recovery of Soccer on the Gulf Coast

We recognize that once the immediate state of emergency is past, the reconstruction of the Gulf Coast will be just beginning - including the rebuilding of the soccer and recreation infrastructure. Many hard days, weeks and even months lie ahead before devastated communities return to any semblance of normalcy. Eventually, after the basic necessities of food, shelter and clothing are met, our fellow players and families will want, and need, to get back on the field and play soccer once again.

The Foundation, in partnership with Eurosport, has established the Soccer United Recovery Fund, to be managed by the Foundation and used to help rebuild soccer programs in Gulf Coast communities. We ask that you support this effort by purchasing one of the special t-shirts or other products designed and being sold by Eurosport. Thanks to the contributions of Eurosport and its vendors, 100% of the sales proceeds will go the Fund and be directly granted to soccer players and clubs who need help getting back on their feet.

Our goal is to raise a minimum of $250,000 to help children begin playing again and replace what was lost, both physically and emotionally, in this tragedy. The Soccer Foundation has committed to raising or contributing at least $50,000 to this fund. Please join us in this worthwhile effort.

Soccer United Recovery Fund Grants Program

We will be introducing a streamlined grant-making process for the Gulf-Coast soccer community in the very near future. This will include the eligibility criteria and expedited means of applying for and receiving field and equipment grants. As the soccer community comes back on-line and is ready to play, we'll be ready to assist them. Once established, we will continue this effort as long as funds remain available.

Our overhead costs are strictly controlled and covered by the Foundation’s endowment. Therefore, 100% of every dollar you contribute will be used for the Soccer United Recovery Fund.

How to Help with Disaster Relief Now

We've all been saddened by the tragic scenes coming out of the Gulf Coast and the effort necessary to save lives and rebuild the affected communities. The U.S. Soccer Foundation is proud to be part of a soccer community that has come together to support those who have been impacted by Hurricane Katrina. Under the leadership of the U.S. Soccer Federation, Major League Soccer, the MLS Players Union, the U.S. National Team Players Association and the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol, a recent on-line auction of game-worn uniforms helped to raise over $100,000 for immediate relief and recovery services for the people of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.

The Foundation will be the recipient of the proceeds generated from the auction and all funds will be donated to humanitarian assistance programs designated to support the victims of Hurricane Katrina through the Bush-Clinton Katrina Relief Fund established by former Presidents Bush and Clinton. We encourage you to support the on-going relief efforts by donating directly to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Relief Fund. Donations can be made directly at www.bushclintonkatrinafund.com or other organizations, such as the Red Cross or Salvation Army, that are providing humanitarian aid to the area.
