Soccer Funders Network Meeting Recap
May 25, 2006
Washington, D.C.

On May 25, 2006, the Foundation convened senior leaders from 18 national soccer organizations that provide support and assistance to community-based soccer programs and projects to learn more about the latest trends in funding soccer organizations and how the Foundation can support this effort.
Led by Brad Hays, Chairman of the Foundation's Board of Directors, and John Koskinen, President of the Foundation, this inaugural "Soccer Funders" meeting was purposeful and stimulating to all that attended.
Representatives from the Atlanta Silverbacks Foundation, American Youth Soccer Organization, California Youth Soccer Association-South, Fireworks for Kids Foundation, Fundacion Corazon de Chivas USA, Mia Hamm Foundation, Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation, Major League Soccer, Michigan State Youth Soccer Association, Eddie Pope Foundation, Soccer Association for Youth, Starfinder Foundation, NSCAA Foundation, and United for D.C all made presentations about their organization and where they see their programs and outreach activities heading over the next year.
Following the presentations, representatives discussed a variety of topics that ranged from the most pressing challenges facing both funders and youth development organizations across the country to possible means of collaborating to develop a strategic approach that identifies a series of "Best Practices" that will help urban soccer programs overcome their common challenges.
