Field Building Standards

Anyone planning, developing or managing a soccer facility is faced with a multitude of decisions regarding the different components of their projects. The Foundation is offering guidance in making those decisions.

The Foundation's  Partners are lending their expertise in the form of the Standards. Below you will find a wealth of invaluable information regarding lighting and goal safety. We encourage you to download and print the Standards that apply to your complex.

Lighting Standards of the US Soccer Foundation

The following standards have been created for the United States Soccer Foundation by Musco Lighting.

These standards apply to the lighting of soccer fields funded through the Foundation Grants Program and are strongly recommended as a reference for projects using the Resource Center as a guide.

These standards incorporate the most current data available regarding the lighting, electrical and structural issues that apply to installation of a safe, effective lighting system.

The standards cover Recommended Minimum Standards, which establish criteria important to the safe conduct of soccer activities and which will heighten the players’ and fans’ positive experience at the field.

The Additional Considerations provide for increasing the value of your facility in terms of efficiency, durability and environmental responsibility.

Movable Goal Safety Standards

While developing the Partners Resource Center, Kwik Goal quickly recognized a need to increase the amount of publicly available information on the importance of soccer goal safety to the soccer community. As a result, Kwik Goal's Safety First Program, addressing safety issues specifically for soccer goals was created.

The Safety First Program details general soccer field and complex safety, as well as a goal safety checklists and the report “Guidelines for Moveable Soccer Goal Safety,” published by the Consumer Products Safety Commission.
