  4. How will I know whether I will be invited to submit a full grant application?

    All Registrants will be notified, via both a webpage screen and email, almost instaneously of the Foundation's decision.  Successful Registrants' email will invite them to submit full applications, using the Foundation’s on-line application process, which will be immediately available to them.  Access to the on-line full application is provided by means of a live "link" in the body of the invitation email.  The 2009 full application submission deadline, including all mandatory, supporting documents, is October 15, 2008, at 5:00 PM, Eastern Time. If mandatory documents are mailed, they must be received in the Foundation's office by the 5:00 PM, October 15, 2008, deadline date.

  5. What happens after I submit a full grant application?

    Each application submitted to the Foundation will be reviewed by the President to determine if it and all mandatory, supporting documents:

    • were received by the published deadline;
    • meet the criteria of a “complete” application; and
    • comply with the Foundation’s policies and practices.

    All applications determined by the President to be timely, complete, and compliant with the Foundation’s policies and practices will be evaluated.  The President, at his/her discretion, may request additional information from the applicant.

    The Grants Committee, currently comprising a Chairman plus 17 members from around the country, meets three times each grant cycle to review and make recommendations on received applications.

    Beginning with all applications determined to be “complete”, the grant pool is narrowed to include no more than 80 highly qualified applications.  Each of the remaining 80 applications is randomly assigned to three members of the Committee for reading and review.  An all day meeting of the full Committee is then held to discuss the reviews and to make a tentative selection of those applications to be funded.  These recommendations are then finalized by the Committee and forwarded to the Board of Directors for its consideration and action at the early spring Board meeting.

    Basis of Evaluation

    All eligible applications will be reviewed to determine:

    • which applications best support the Foundation’s mission statement;
    • which applications best address and incorporate the Foundation’s FY 2009 grant focus; and
    • the individual merits of the Grant Project.

    The Grants Committee will select those applications that, in its sole discretion and determination, best address these evaluation criteria.  The Grants Committee will then recommend those applications, together with the amount of grant moneys and other terms, if any, to the Foundation’s Board of Directors for consideration.

    The Board of Directors will review all recommended applications, and may take, in its sole discretion, any or no action on any application.

    Applicants will be required to agree to such reporting procedures as the Board of Directors may establish as a condition of receiving a grant.  The Board of Directors may place any other conditions upon a grant that it deems appropriate.  The President will notify all applicants regarding actions taken by the Foundation on their respective applications.

    In person presentations are not part of the grants evaluation process and requests for such will not be considered.

  6. How will I know whether my program or project has been awarded a grant?

  7. Can I appeal the Foundation’s decision on my unsuccessful grant application?

    No, as there is no reconsideration of the Board of Directors’ decision regarding grant awards, the Foundation will not accept appeals.
