Why Soccer?

SOCCER IS A POWERFUL VEHICLE FOR SOCIAL CHANGE

While almost everyone understands the fun side of soccer, it is easy to overlook the serious role it can play in the lives of children.

At the U.S. Soccer Foundation we believe that, given a chance, children in vulnerable communities can overcome life’s many challenges — numbing statistics that say the odds of a healthy, happy and productive life are stacked against them. Through efforts like our Soccer for Success program, we provide these children with opportunities to move forward and achieve their goals.

Soccer for Success provides free after-school soccer programming to thousands of children in grades K-8, offering them a safe environment to exercise daily, work with mentors, and develop important life skills.

We give children the game of soccer. Soccer gives them the motivation to finish a homework assignment or study for a test. Soccer gives them the physical activity they need to stay healthy and fit. And soccer gives them trained and caring coaches who are committed to helping them develop both soccer skills and life skills they will need to secure a better future.

The Foundation is working to bring the “Soccer for Success” model to economically disadvantaged communities nationwide, but we need your help. A donation of just $250 can provide one player with a full year of programming, equipment, instruction, and mentors to help them succeed.
