Charles “Cully” D. Stimson is a Senior Legal Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, a prominent think tank in Washington, D.C. Cully is a national expert in criminal and military law, detention policy, military commissions, and national defense and homeland security issues. Prior to joining The Heritage Foundation, Cully was Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense in the George W. Bush administration. An accomplished trial attorney, Cully has been a local, state, federal, and military prosecutor, and has served as a military defense counsel. Currently, he is a Commander in the United States Navy JAG Corps (reserves), where he sits as a military trial judge. An avid soccer player, Cully was the captain of his high school (St. James School, Maryland) and college (Kenyon College) varsity soccer teams, and earned All-Conference honors at each. He coached high school soccer, including former U.S. Men’s National Team Goalie, Juergen Sommer, when Juergen was a senior in high school. |
