U.S. Soccer Foundation HUD Grant Project

Federal Support serves as Catalyst for Permanent Soccer Fields and Programs Serving At-Risk Youth in DC, Los Angeles, Florida and Appalachia.

In 2003, the U.S. Soccer Foundation received a Neighborhood Initiatives Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This federal grant of approximately $450,000 was utilized by the Soccer Foundation to develop four soccer-specific projects serving distressed and communities. Each project uses soccer as the vehicle to reach at-risk youth and to promote positive change in the local communities. All programs are now fully operational and on-going. They are:

  • Mayport, Florida Elementary School Athletic Field Renovation
  • Los Angeles Red Shield Salvation Army Soccer Field Renovation
  • "UNITE" After-School Soccer Initiative in Eastern, Kentucky
  • DC SCORES Middle School Pilot Project in Washington, DC
