Advocacy Day

An integral part of the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s role as the national advocate for the game of soccer is assisting grassroots and urban soccer programs from across the U.S. to develop relationships with their elected leaders and key decision-makers in Washington, DC.

Each year, the U.S. Soccer Foundation hosts an “Urban Soccer Advocacy Day” which was created to promote the tremendous work being done by local soccer programmers and provide them with increased visibility among key decision-makers in our Nation’s Capital.

In 2010, more than one dozen local soccer organizations attended and participated in over 40 individual meetings on Capitol Hill and with federal agencies. In addition to arranging these meetings, the U.S. Soccer Foundation provides the training, materials, and guidance to facilitate vital connections between these organizations and their elected leaders.

Through continued engagement, these soccer organizations establish strong relationships with their elected leaders and other public officials which can lead to additional resources to enhance their ability to serve their communities as well as grow the sport of soccer across the country.

Important national priorities such as: combating childhood obesity, promoting education, gender-equality, and preventing youth-related violence are all issues that soccer is helping to address by providing safe and accessible opportunities for children to learn and play.
