Addressing National Issues

Health Benefits of Soccer

Youth who engage in well designed after-school soccer programs are less likely to be overweight; suffer from chronic health conditions like asthma and diabetes; or drop out of school, join a gang, or commit a crime.

With so many children at risk of developing obesity related health issues, the time for action is now. Soccer

  • provides a fun way to improve overall health – increasing strength, agility and endurance.
  • serves as a positive outlet
  • engages participants in a high level of constant physical activity, requiring players to run, sprint, jump, pivot, and kick a ball during practice and games

Let's Move

First Lady Michelle Obama joined the U.S. Soccer Foundation for a free soccer clinic in Washington, D.C. to help launch the Let's Move! campaign - a nationwide movement to solve the epidemic of childhood obesity within a generation.
