Fit for L.I.F.E. ActLocal Investments in the Future of Every Child The U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Advocacy efforts focus on using sport as a vehicle to promote youth development and positive social change. This includes combating childhood obesity, preventing youth delinquency, and the critical issue of providing youth with safe and accessible places to play, especially those in underserved communities. We’re a partner in the First Lady’s “Let’s Move!” childhood obesity prevention campaign and support legislative initiatives such as the recently introduced, “Fit for L.I.F.E. (Local Investments in the Future of Every Child)” Act. This bill (H.R. 6258) attempts to comprehensively address the unique barriers to eradicating childhood obesity in underserved communities. It provides targeted resources to these communities which have disproportionate rates of childhood obesity, including funding to support programs which specifically use youth sports as a means of combating obesity as well as promoting the reclamation and reuse of abandoned properties for public recreation spaces. We congratulate Representatives Marcia Fudge of Ohio and Anh “Joseph” Cao of Louisiana on their vision and bi-partisan effort to introduce H.R. 6258, The Fit for L.I.F.E. Act.
