The U.S. Soccer Foundation annually awards the David Charles Vanole Grant in honor of David Charles Vanole and on behalf of the David Vanole Memorial Fund. David Vanole, goalkeeper for the 1988 U.S. Olympic Team and the 1990 U.S. Men's National Team, was extremely dedicated to the sport of soccer and to the growth of the game. During the rebirth of professional soccer in the U.S., Vanole played for Los Angeles Heat, San Jose Earthquakes and the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks of the Western Soccer League (later the American Professional Soccer League). After his playing career, Vanole continued to make an impact in the world of soccer by serving as the goalkeeper coach in the 2000 Sydney Olympics for the silver-medal winning U.S. Women's National Team. During his coaching career, he also worked as a goalkeeper coach for the New England Revolution, D.C. United, his alma mater UCLA, and the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team at the FIFA World Youth Championship in 1999. David Vanole was a pioneer in the U.S. Soccer world and his impact on the game is one that will never be forgotten. In memory of David Vanole, the David Charles Vanole Grant is awarded to help create and sustain soccer opportunities for underserved children. Up to $10,000 is awarded each year to one or more organizations for equipment, scholarships, field upgrades and other needs. Eligibility Requirements:
